Mind that puddle

Mind those puddles: while Edinburgh has provided some dedicated cycle infrastructure, it has been very much on a shoe string budget and there is plenty of room for improvement. So we welcome the resent announcement from the City of Edinburgh Council that 5% of its transport capital budget will be invested in cycling infrastructure and projects.

Resurfacing NMW would be a fabulous start. It’s not just the puddles, and the bumps, but also the mud/leak slick on the edges, and the horrible slippy bit in the middle .

  2. Resurfacing isn’t all, we also need more divisions between cycle paths and walkways as you are otherwise left to ride on the grass, which is a lot of fun when wet

  3. If you are worried about the quality of cycling infrastructure in Edinburgh, we would urge to to write to your local councillors via write to them and make you concerns known. The more of us that do so, the more likely we are to get things changed for the better.

and when there are divisions between cycle paths and foot paths then it would be helpful if they are level with the surfaces on either side! I have nearly been tramlined onto my side a couple of times when trying to give space to a cyclist coming in the other direction (so they can avoid the muddy edges) and accidentally brushing up against the raised divison between paths as shown
